near Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Boreal Ridge, Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs, Royal Gorge and Tahoe Donner ski resorts.
Driving from the Donner Lake lodging house to the North, South, East and West, you can get to downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, toboganing, sledding, ice skating, snowmobiling and snow play. All within a short driving distance.
The home is centrally located near all the North Lake Tahoe ski resorts.

is located close to all the
North Lake Tahoe
and
Donner Summit ski resorts
Leaving the Donner Lake cabin rental home going to the west on Donner Pass Rd., following along the Lake and going up to the summit, you come to the first ski resort of Donner Ski Ranch on the right and a short distance further to the Judah Lodge and lift area of Sugar Bowl. You can see the top of Sugar Bowl's Lincoln lift from our deck. Further west you come to Soda Springs and then Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort. Donner Pass Rd. is generally kept plowed to the ski areas. There is a sign as soon as you get off of I-80 at exit 184 telling you if Donner Pass Rd. is open to the summit and thers's similar sign at the West end of Donner Lake before you start up the grade. Sugar Bowl has a large white school bus that provides free transportation to their Judah Lodge area that passes in front of the house. There are designated areas along Donner Pass Road where the bus stops. We have hailed them down, right in front of the house, and have had them drop us off on the return in front of the house. But they like to be able to pull off the road.
Boreal Ski Resort is best accessed by going West on Interstate 80 from the exit 184 on ramp.
Donner State Park is within walking distance. You can cross country ski and snowshoe in the park. The park rangers occasionaly plow cross-country tracts on the road in the park. Snow mobile rental is available in Coldstream Canyon adjacent to Donner State Park. You can access the park by walking one half block to an opening in the park's split rail fence, where locals walk in, just East of Tahoe Donner's chain link fence and private beach and . If the snow is high, just walk over the fence. X-country skiing up Coldstream Canyon, next to the park, is an adventure. The road to the canyon is straight ahead when you exited from I-80 at exit 184. The road goes between the 76 and Chevron gas stations alongside Madigans Restaurant.
Other ski resorts can be accessed by going East on 80 and then South on Highway 89 to Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Granlibaken, Homewood, and Tahoe XCountry Ski.
Further East on I-80 and than South on Highway 267 is Northstar, Mount Rose and Diamond Peak Ski areas. HAVE FUN!!!
